10 Jun Why We Are Gods Peculiar People
We serve a creative God. He’s creative. Creativity is a part of his nature. He doesn’t know how not to be creative. We can look at creation itself and see God’s creativity at work. He created insects that can jump out and scare you if you don’t know what you are looking at, and at the same time he created insects that you can’t even see if you are not paying attention enough. Camouflage insects. He created insects that look like sticks. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen him. Most people have and don’t know they have seen them. They look like sticks.
Like ordinary sticks that fell from a tree. Until you get close enough up on it and see it move. See it sticking to your door or to the screen on your door. Laying on your back porch. He created Praying Mantis that look like leaves and plant stems. Odd shaped and unique at the same time. He created the simple insect like an ant or a ladybug, to the complex like the poisonous spider or the scorpion. Some are easier to look at more than others. Some you need to have a certain amount of fear of more than others. The stingers on a wasp and a hornet don’t fall off. They can keep stinging you until their heart’s content. A bee can hit you once and then go away. A hornet can hit you repeatedly forcing you to go away.
Some of the things God created are far past the imagination of any man. There are things God created that we haven’t even seen yet. Go watch the Deep Blue Sea series on the discovery channel, and look at the fish that swim down in the abyss. It’s so dark down there God put lights inside the fish so they can see where they are swimming. God created fish that light up like a Christmas tree since they’re so far down in the sea no sunlight can penetrate below. We’re talking 7 miles below the sea.
Everything God does is different. Different from anything man could have conjured up on his own. That’s how you know it’s from God. God did the same thing with his children. Out of all the things God could have chosen to create Man, he decided to use dirt. Mud. He could have created Man out of gold, platinum, diamond, sapphire, onyx, copper, silver, palladium, emerald, ruby, God chose dirt. God chose one of the very things that hold the least amount of value, when looking at it from a “material” perspective. You can’t trade dirt for a car. You can’t trade dirt for a house. You can’t give the Bank dirt as collateral. Most people don’t want it. Dirt is valuable to the Farmer. Because without it he can grow crops. Without dirt we get no vegetables. Without dirt we get no fruit. Without dirt we get no trees. Without trees we get no clean air to breathe.
So it’s not that God created Man out of something that is not “valuable”, he created Man out of something that most people don’t value. Dirt to most people is a nuisance. We’re constantly trying to get rid of dirt. We track on the floor, we mop it. We track it on the rug, we vacuum it. We get it on our clothes, we wash it. We try to get dirt out of everything except ourselves. If we made the same amount of effort trying to remove the dirt in our lives, like we do when we get it on our shoes, each of us would affect everyone around us who doesn’t know God.
But God chose dirt to create Man. He chose the very thing that most people avoid coming into contact with. He chose something most people prefer not to touch or be around. Maybe God chose dirt because he can relate to dirt in those ways. Because though God created dirt, the thing he created out of the dirt doesn’t want to be around him either. Doesn’t want to touch him either. The thing he created, prefers to avoid him sometimes at all cost. We can look at the creation aspect above, and we can look at the way God directs his people in the Old Testament and the New. And we can gather from both books that God is a peculiar being, and it’s not a negative to say.
God is different. He relishes being different. You know who doesn’t? Satan. Don’t believe me. Stand up for God in your school and watch what happens. Or amongst people in your Family. The first thing they try to do is make you feel uncomfortable. Make you feel like an outsider. Ridicule you because you’re not like everybody else. Because you’re not like them. Because in school and in life and in our families and amongst our friends, all we wanna do is “fit in”. We’ve been told that “fitting in” is the way to live a successful life. That going along is better than going against. The problem with that is, that is not you. And it’s not you because it’s not God.
God said my people are a peculiar people. My people are a strange people. Peter 2:9 says “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people;” So God’s people are supposed to be peculiar. We’re not suppose to “fit in”. We spend more time trying to fit in then we do trying to serve God. So we wanna serve God and we wanna fit in. But you can’t do both. To serve God is to be different, and called strange by the world. To not serve God is to be called “normal”. What do you mean you don’t lie? What do you mean you wanna wait until your married to have sex? What do you mean you want to be a help-meet to your Husband? What do you mean you want to have kids when you’re married? Who do you think you are? Stop trying to explain to people who are all the same, concepts that God deemed for those he calls peculiar.
You can’t say it in a way that they won’t find you strange, so just stop trying to come off as if you aren’t.
You’re a light in a dark world, of course you’re peculiar. Of course you’re strange. Of course you’re odd, that’s the goal. That’s Gods will for you to be strange. For you to be a light. For you to stand apart from the rest of them. In Exodus 8:25-26, watch what Moses says: “Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God within this land.” But Moses replied, “It would not be right to do that, because the sacrifices we offer to the LORD our God would be detestable to the Egyptians. If we offer sacrifices that are detestable before the Egyptians, will they not stone us“? We must make a three-day journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the LORD our God as He commands us”.
Today we are free from stoning, at least in the United States, but we are not free from ridicule. We are not free from judgement. We are not free from persecution. So a lot of us have resolved to doing things in “secret”, to escape the persecution that comes from doing it out in the open where the Egyptians can see. Moses was being tactful. God would not have let Moses and Aaron and the people of Israel get stoned by the Egyptians. God had a purpose and a plan for them. There’s nothing wrong with being tactful, but being tactful doesn’t supersede being truthful. Moses did not deny that they were going to sacrifice and worship God, but he warned him that the way we worship our God is by his commandment, and you would find his commandment on how we sacrifice to him to be a detestable thing.
A Godly woman openly saying “I desire to be a great house wife to my Husband and Mother to my children” is seen as a detestable thing to ungodly women. The will of God for a woman, is a detestable thing to a ungodly woman. God’s way is peculiar to them. Social Media is the most prominent tool of satan to persecute the Men and Women of God. It is the most prominent tool at his disposal to attack God’s children. Many women have been attacked verbally and shamed for saying they desired to be a great help-meet to their Husband.
If you’re a Man, declare your desire to withhold your sexual impulse until your day of marriage, and watch satan send his children to attack you. To ridicule you. To make you feel less then. To make you feel like you’re “not like the rest of them”. It’s because you’re not! I feel strongly that we failed to properly educate our children on the things that were to come. We sent them out into the World unprepared. We told them to make friends, but did not direct them into the kind of friends they should have been making.
The Bible says “What business does light have with darkness“. Our children as they progress in age, are forming relationships with people they have no business forming relationships with. We are not the same. As children start to age and become more aware, their differences become more evident. If you are bringing up your children in the ways of the Lord, let them form relationships with our children who are also being raised in the ways of the Lord.
Godly women aren’t on Instagram posting sexually illicit photos of themselves saying “So blessed”. They may be blessed, but not in the ways that they think. God is long-suffering. That’s how there blessed. Because God gives people time to repent. Stop seeking the council and the guidance of the unrighteous. Tell them your having trouble in your marriage, they’ll respond with “divorce him”.
This is more prevalent amongst Wives more than Husbands. Divorce him. Dishonor God, dishonor your Husband, dishonor yourself, cripple your children and destroy your Family, because “you deserve to be happy”. God never promised us “happy”, because happiness is fleeting. God promised us joy, because Joy is not fleeting. How do you think people stay married for 30 years? It’s because they fought through the 7 years that was rough. You don’t go 30 good years with God if truth be told, and if you could divorce him and start a fresh you would, but you can’t.
You could be happy at 3’oclock and sad at 3:30, all it takes is some bad news. But joy is sustaining. It’s sustaining because it comes from God. And since God never changes, joy never changes, it’s always present. It doesn’t fluctuate because God doesn’t fluctuate. So if you are leaving marriage because you are not happy after 10 years, then what about your children, are they happy? Who’s going to be happy if you leave besides yourself? The same culture and mindset that the World got, many people in the Church got as well.
Your wife is not going to look at 40, as she did at 20. Some wives have been able to pull it off but it ain’t the norm. You wanna trade her in for a younger more beautiful model. They may make you happy, but look at all the people who it’s gonna hurt, starting with God. Our marriage’s aren’t supposed to look like the marriages of unbelievers. We should be happily married when at all possible. You go through seasons, but with God you can come out of it. The Apostle Paul said when you get married, that the body of both individuals belong to one another. That means there’s some upkeep that has to take place. This is our standard. Why would we be comfortable presenting ourselves to one another, if we’re not willing to make ourselves presentable in the first place? We ain’t talking about vanity, we’re talking about decency.
This is what separates the children of God who marry versus those who don’t believe in God. We have a standard in which we live by in Christ. The problem is our marriages and our lives don’t look like the standard Christ set, it looks like the standard the World set. The same things Women in the World look for in a Man, the Women in the Church looking for the same thing. The same things Men in the World are looking for in a wife, the Men in the Church are looking for as well. We’re not supposed to be looking for the same qualities in a Wife or in a Husband that the World is looking for. But we’ve taken on the same mindset as the World.
You use to be able to tell the difference between a Godly person and an unbeliever by just looking at them. Now you can’t tell the difference. Can’t tell by how they dress, because we dress the same. Can’t tell by the car we drive, because we drive the same. They drive a Bently, we drive a Bently. They own a Yacht, we own the Yacht right next to it. They live in a big Mansion, we live in the one in back of it. They wear expensive jewelry, we wear expensive jewelry. They got a only fans page, we got a only fans page. They go to the club, we go to club. They have kids out of wedlock, we have kids out of wedlock. They hook up with people on Tinder, we hook up with people on Tinder. Their concerned about Marxism and Socialism, were concerned about Marxism and Socialism. How are we even different from them? It isn’t in our speech, because we even talk like them. The only difference is we say “God Bless you” at the end.
There is a movement sweeping the country right now, that will be turning into a Marxist slash Socialist society. Even if that was true, why are we so concerned about it? I showed you God is peculiar. God is not a Capitalist. God is not a Socialist. God is not a Communist. God is not Marxist. The Kingdom of God is nothing like the United States in which we live. There is no Senate or House of Representatives or Congress. In the Kingdom of God, Christ says, we do. Christ says, we obey.
There is no , “well let’s take a vote on whether we should do what Jesus is telling us”. If that’s what you want, then you don’t want the Kingdom of God. He’s at the top, period! There’s no one to appeal to. What he says is final. He’s all the courts embodied in one person. If you have to relate it to an Earthly system, the Kingdom of God is a Dictatorship. And God is the dictator.
If you read the Book of Acts, you’ll see in several places where the Church was on “one accord” and of “one mind”, having all things in common. One of the scriptures in Acts 2:42-47 reads: “Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided[c] them among all, as anyone had need. So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved“.
We also see in Matthew 19:21, Jesus telling a very rich man to sell all his possessions and give the money to the poor then come follow him: “Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.” When the young man heard this, he went away in sorrow, because he had great wealth. The Kingdom of God is not he who makes the most, keeps the most, because God gifts us in different ways. Some talents earn more money than other talents, but nevertheless, our talents come from God. The man Jesus was speaking to had a talent or great deal of talents that allowed him to accumulate a large amount of wealth. Jesus saw that this Man had everything fit for the Kingdom, except an unhealthy attachment to money.
Selling all your Earthly riches, to give to the poor in the Church, it’s not what a Capitalist would do. That is not Capitalism. If we had to relate it to an Earthly government system, it would be Socialism. Not the Capitalism that the country and the people who say they follow Christ, are so concerned about being taken away. Then we see in the Book of Acts 1:15-26, the Apostles voted to elect another Man to replace the Apostle Judas. So in this instance, we see what would be called a Democratic system being used for this purpose.
God’s way is God’s way. And he uses what he chooses to use. The reason why people in the Church are so caught up in rumors of systems changing, is because at the heart of it the individual, lies a rebellious nature.
Many of us become one mind with unbelievers, to protect our freedoms, but we lost our freedoms when we became Christ’s treasure. Are we not now servants to a Kingdom that is not of this World? So why do we grieve when the World is groaning in pain? It is because many of us are still attached to this world, and our minds are yet to be renewed which is the work Christ is trying to do. But many will not allow their minds to be renewed, because they love this present World and do not wish to see it perish. They fight amongst other people in the Church, siblings, co-workers, friends, and strangers or celebrities on Social Media.
They are heavily invested in the failures of the World, while comfortable with the failures within the Church. Many are just waiting to leave anyway. The moment they sit down the clock ticks for when they can depart. God is close on their lips, but the farthest from their hearts. If this is you, STOP what you’re doing! That is not a suggestion, but the Lords charge to all of us. But nonetheless, there are within the Body of Christ, a peculiar people.
God always reserves for himself a remnant. A peculiar people who desire to worship him as he commands, and not as they desire. Do not strive to be like your classmate, your co-worker or your neighbor, strive to love your neighbor. For we are the treasure of Christ. A people whom he called to himself, peculiar and separated.
I hope this message is helpful for you. I hope it was able to be a blessing in your life and your walk with Christ. God Bless you and I speak to you soon. Please leave a comment if God is working in your life. And let’s continue to pray for each other always.
